3 Cooke, John Esten Wearing of the Gray
E.B. Treat & Co.

1867 First Edition Hardcover No Dustwrapper
Fresh text block throughout, with the backing still strong, the front inner hinge (on these fragile 19th century (decorative patterened) endpapers) is exposed, the back hinge intact (slightly started), Initialed on the front endpaper, no other markings anywhere, The titlepage is lacking the tissue-guard.. (When these trun brown they should be removed (or isolated) so that acid does not migrate to the text block), There is another engarved page/plate facing the opening of 'part 1' which still has it's tissue guard (in this case it is closer to regular paper). Other illustrations throughout are printed. Bright covers, corners a little bumped but not severly, Spine strip rubbed / aged, there is some wear to the fabric near the bottom of the spine strip, where it has frayed and worn through in one spot. The text block is fine, and trhe covers are bright, exceedingly scarce, There is no date on the titlepage and the copyright date has a misprint so only the 18 shows. 018710
