Large 4to. (12.5" x 9.25") backed in vellum with vellum board tips, with blue paper over the boards and a gilt stamped blue paper title label on the spine. The second largest book Mosher ever produced (the largest being Ten Spiritual Designs which is only slightly taller). An exceptionally bright copy. One of 250 copies printed on Van Gelder paper. xxvii, 72, [1].; primary text in couplets (Kasidah means couplets) and stylistically comparable to the Rubaiyat and called "an exquisite gem of Oriental poetry". An exceptional copy from the translator of the Arabian Nights. The introduction by William Marion Reedy (Reedy's Mirror of St Louis). Other prefatory material from Robert Browning, Theodore Watts-Dunton, Algernon Swinburne, and a memorial tribute to C.F. Libby written by Mosher. Extensive notes from pp. 39-68; bibliography of English and American editions. Title-page and colophon in red and black; large capital letters (by Goudy?) in red; Flameng's portrait of Burton reproduced by Bierstadt, and facsimiles of the original wrapper design and title-page of the first edition. Considered by Mosher to b e "one of my best productions". This is an exceptional fine copy with the binding in fine condition. From the collection of Mosher bibliographer Phillip R Bishop.
